Monday evening's annual costume institute gala event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was arguably the most stylish high-fashion spectacle, so far, this year.
The celebration of China - through the looking glass was co-chaired by Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence, Vogue mag editor Anna Wintour, a Chinese actress named Gong Li amongst many others with artistic clout. Some of the gowns which donned the red carpet were outlandishly outrageous, daring but elegant and made a statement. Sarah Jessica Parker's avant-garde, ecclectic look kept fashion bloggers on their toes, there was non-stop tweeting about singer Solange Knowles statement gown. Not all dresses worked well, unfortunately actress Chloe Sevigny's gown was a bit of an eye sore one can imagine her being kicked out of Tesco's because of the mismatch, however we do have some favourites.
Elegant Australian actress Courtney Eaton from the film Mad Max; fury road wore a stylish and opulent, golden Dolce and Gabbana corset gown. The embroidery was intricate but heavy and the fancy headpiece complemented her ornate, dangly, regal earrings. She looked like a Mongolian princess lost on the silk route to Tashkent.
Rihanna wore a golden glazed Canary yellow frock with fur edges. Her cap-sleeved, crystal embellished gown and innovative headpiece were designed by Chinese couture creator and artistic genius Guo Pei. Ri Ri won't be able to wear it for this year's Barbados Cropover (Carnival) though, simply because it's just too hot ! Her Laboutin shoes and Cartier jewelry were show stoppers.
Slender, Oscar winning actress Anne Hathaway donned a slinky, golden Ralph Lauren dress with an elegant hooded top attached, she also wore seductive Repossi jewelry accessories to complement the hoodie theme. She looked somewhat angelic; almost a metallic little red riding hood, ready to depart in to a golden galaxy and orbit of the unknown. Some bloggers described her attire as nothing more than a metallic, classy boxing gown, she was clearly still in the mood for more Mayweather Pacman debacles. Another hug please.
