If you could imagine being taken to a classy beach resort in the 70s you would have hit the nail on the head with Olivier Rousteing’s vision for his new collection.
Celebrities, top models and fashion elite all graced his show, eager to see what was next in store for the 2017 Balmain woman.
Kim Kardashian sat front row in a custom one piece crochet Balmain creation next to former editor in chief of Vogue Paris Carine Roitfeld.
Taking a step back from his usual military inspired style, Olivier let out a “lightness and ease” to permeate through his new collection. Injecting multicolored bright hues, touches of flowing silhouettes and crocheted macramé graced the girls’ figures all while maintaining a rich at dusk.
While, other creations retained his signature form fitting intricate style that is intrinsically Olivier. Even though this collection was missing the beading and armor like details that we have known the Balmain woman to have, this new collection is no less strong and empowering.
The sleek styling of slick hair, a power red lip and fresh skin all tie in the impression of how Olivier sees the modern woman. One that is strong enough to not only be successful, but one that can do it and not have to wear armor, one that is strong enough in her own femininity to have a softer image to relay to the world.
I will always be pro-colorful ensembles and for me this collection delivers a wonderful representation of what is yet to come and it is exciting to see Olivier expand his signature looks.
In collaboration with model and style icon Gigi Hadid, Tommy Hilfiger launched ‘see now, buy now’ collection at New York Fashion Week, which means items are readily available for purchase. Hilfiger added a street-wear inspired touch to his signature of nautical themed clothing for the very first time. In line with the nautical theme, the pieces largely consisted of navy blue, red and white with a touch of black and metallic gold. Building on the autumn/winter collection, Hilfiger added preppy logoed tracksuits, revealing the Hilfiger logo on the waistband, alongside various oversized pieces such as chunky knit jumpers, slouchy hoodies, basketball jerseys and silk bomber jackets.
Some of the pieces were extremely oversized and were worn as dresses and styled with sexy thigh-high socks and chunky buckle boots. These sporty pieces were teamed with high-waisted trousers with brass-button detail, bandana neck-scarves, military coats and long-line faux-fur coats to give the collection a “nautical meets street” feel, as Hilfiger intended. Hadid herself opened up the show wearing tight leather trousers, a navy and white military jacket with button detail, chunky buckle boots and a bandana neck-scarf. The styling of this collection will certainly give tomboys new ideas on how to style such sporty pieces.
This season Fashion Thirst takes a look at the latest designers to present their new collections at New York Fashion Week. Highly anticipated Tom Ford was one of the big names to present earlier this week.
The collection its self carried a strong autumn pallet with berry reds, grey tones and geometric patchworks, whilst the use of short fur, and detachable leather accessories demonstrated a vintage feel.
A glitz and glam streak was added to the collection with backless statement dresses, heavily encrusted with sequins, high standing collars and elegantly flowing bishop sleeves.
Tom Fords Fashion Show was presented in the prestige location of Four Seasons restaurant with big celebrity attendees such as Alicia Key’s, Liya Kebede and Naomi Campbell. Fords newest collection bounced with sophistications with models such as Gigi Hadid, Imaan Hammam, Lucky Blue Smith and Miles McMillan walking for Ford this season.
