Tadashi Shoji SS15

Inspired by a life long awaited trip to Venice, Shoji’s SS collection is a romanticised, elegant dream. Immediately as the show starts, with fairytale music and soft white light, the spectacle begins to unfold. A magical transportation into a fantasy world, adorned with lace and silk, you become instantly transfixed into his enchanting vision through floor length gowns and cocktail evening wear - an area this Japanese born, American designer is so coveted for.

The opening gown validates confidence that Tadashi has not faulted this time around, with angelic white  draped to the soles of strapped heels, wrapped in a trench coat silhouette that shimmers like the canals of the city. Intricately patterned lace and subtle pleating follows on throughout, creating sophisticated, fairytale royalty.

Even the use of floral - a known choice for the season - has been integrated in such a way that the collection feels completely unique, each garment transports you back to historic Venice, and is drenched in the imagery and architecture through each step. Pastel floral with black accents, sharp collars and silky skirts all send a nod back to the routes of inspiration, with button down shirt dresses and arm drenching sleeves contrasting the delicate jewel embellishment.

A muted palette of blacks, whites, greys and navy, with dusty pastels and hints of worn lime are not the usual choice for a spring summer collection, yet the use of soft silks and floaty fabrics brings you right back to a warmer clime.

Simple hair and makeup allow your full attention to the detail. Flock like pattern, sheer chain mesh panels and strikingly simple and feminine cuts, not a stitch has been overlooked by this talented man.

The standout piece? The knee cut cape dress, with its oversized shape and elegant flock this piece is a transitional statement that is needed in every woman’s wardrobe. Not too sure? Stick to a box cut top and long floaty skirt and you’re on your way to becoming a romantic novel heroine. True perfection.

It’s clear to see, this designer isn’t going anywhere, and he’s taking us along for the ride of our dreams.
